David Marquez interview - Westside Pro Wrestling

NWA Main Man

David Marquez is a member of the NWA Board of Directors, the promoter of NWA Pro and one of the people instrumental in the Explosive Pro Wrestling affiliation with the National Wrestling Alliance. Westside Pro Wrestling's Tez Himself was lucky enough to get the opportunity to speak to the very busy NWA Pro promoter.

WPW: You got your start in the wrestling business in the late 1980's, how did you initially get involved?

MARQUEZ: I started out like most people, being a “jack of all trades”. First taking jackets, then graduated to taking photographs and such. Things really started to fly for me in the mid 1990s when I moved to Missouri and started World Legion Wrestling with Gordon Solie and Harley Race. Its pretty much been full steam since then.

WPW: The NWA had been a major part of Australian Wrestling in the 1970's and early 1980's, but with the decline of World Championship Wrestling, had no affiliate. This changed in 2005 with the affiliation with EPW. Can you tell us how this came about and how do you think the affiliation has gone after nearly five years?

MARQUEZ: Hartley Jackson and Mikey Nicholls came to stay with us at the LA Dojo. They told me about EPW and Davis Storm came right after them. During their time training, we talked about many different possibilities and in those three months we created the relationships in both Perth and Adelaide.

WPW: Mikey Nicholls, Bobby Marshall and Shane Haste seem to have had the biggest success of the Australian talent that have visited SoCal since 2005. There have been title runs (Nicholls and Marshall) and shots at the NWA World Title (Haste). Do you think any Australian talent has a shot at a BOD (Board of Directors) Title reign in the future?

MARQUEZ: I’d say all of those guys you have mentioned, I’d even throw in Damian Slater. I’m very impressed with the ability of everyone I’ve seen from Oz. If I had to pick one…it’ll be a toss up between Haste and Marshall.

WPW: The 2007 NWA Australian Tour was a good time to be a WA wrestling fan, getting to see the likes of Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli, Rocky Romero, Sean Waltman and The Real American Heroes compete against EPW talent, who some of us had been following since their early years. Is there any update on a DVD release of the shows and on a personal note, how did you find your first experience of Australia?

MARQUEZ: We’ve planned on adding the tour to our “Reclaiming the Glory” DVD, but that has been put on hold by Big Vision due to the decline of DVD sales world wide. They are looking at other means of distribution for us as I answer these questions. And as for my time down there…I really enjoyed myself. I met some of the most wonderful people I think I will ever meet; I ate meat pies and drank a lot of ice coffee (your version of ice coffee is very different from ours). That tour will not be my last one to your country.

WPW: The NWA Australian National Championship has become stuck in Adelaide, when it was created to be a title defended around the country. The title was last defended outside of South Australia in November 2008, and hasn't been seen in Perth since April 2008. Now with EPW Adelaide's name change to NWA Pro, it seems increasingly unlikely this will change any time soon and Perth fans are disappointed with this situation. Does NWA have authority on the title or is it all in the hands of NWA Pro Adelaide?

MARQUEZ: Yes the NWA does have authority, and the management there knows what’s best for their promotions. I’m sure when the time is right, that green beauty will pop up in Perth again.

WPW: The airing of the NWA on Fire program beginning in January is the first time NWA product has been shown on Australian National TV since World Championship Wrestling in the late 1970's. How did the deal come about?

MARQUEZ: That was secured by a third party distributor that licensed our footage and re-packaged it from existing programs. I have no idea really, what each hour consists of.

WPW: Does the NWA have any plans regarding Australia in the near future?

MARQUEZ: Well yes. It’s my hope to grow the NWA brand there. The management teams there are looking into expanding the brand, but currently there is no rush.

WPW: What does the NWA have in store for 2010 on the American scene?

MARQUEZ: Well, we hope to keep developing new talent. Return to television in a different way, especially the format and model. And to keep up what we are doing and that is producing hundreds if not thousands of NWA sanctioned events world wide.

WPW: Thank you for taking the time to speak to Westside Pro Wrestling, Mr. Marquez.

NWA Pro M1Wrestling announces partnership with TNA Wrestling

TNA has established a working relationship with the Mach 1 Wrestling school/promotion based in Orange County, California to give TNA wrestlers an official training location and also look for new talent to eventually bring to the TNA roster.

TNA is sending Knockout Lacey Von Erich to California to train with the M1 trainers, who offer three weekly courses and run weekly shows on Friday nights in Anaheim.

TNA VP of Talent Relations Terry Taylor recently visited the school, along with Orange County resident Frankie Kazarian and Brian Kendrick, to visit the M1 facility.

Several “Wrestling 101” students have in short time broken through to the main M1W roster, and appeared on weekly “Friday Fight Night” events, with rave critique for the efficiency of head trainers Joey Ryan and Johnny Goodtime.

Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport, Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport-- The Western Australia - So Cal NWA Connection.

The Western Australian So Cal Connection isn't the newest tag team appearing for M1Wrestling next weekend. Its been a phenomenon in our wrestling scene that hasn't been replicated anywhere else in the World. As a Southern California native, when I think of Australians I typically think of Crocodile Dundee, Kangaroos, Koalas, or Outback Steakhouse. When someone mentions wrestling in Australia the feint sound of Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport fills my ears and I reflect on my fond memories of Outback Jack and his appearances for the World Wrestling Federation. However nearly 25 years have passed since Outback Jack and The Australian Wrestling Scene has grown leaps and bounds since then. Western Australia alone has a handful of promotions, but today I’m talking about Explosive Pro Wrestling. In the world of professional wrestling any influx of talent from one wrestling promotion to another is often referred to as an invasion. And the invasion of Southern California wrestling by Australians dates back to late 2005 and since the invasion 15 Australians have used the SoCal Wrestling Scene as a learning excursion and for a short while, called Southern California home.

The Western Australian Connection to SoCal all comes down to a meeting of Explosive Pro Wrestlers, Hartley Jackson (who is actually from Southern Australia) and Mikey Nichols and the NWA. NWA Pro Wrestling had started to gain a foothold in the Southern California wrestling scene with its ties to the World Famous Inoki Dojo. There the Inoki Dojo recruited talent from across the country and across the world. The talent was originally groomed for chances to appear in New Japan Pro Wrestling, which was exemplified by Bryan Danielson, TJ Perkins, Ricky Reyes, Rocky Romero, Tommy Williams, later by Fergal Devitt and Karl “the Machinegun” Anderson. Two wayward travelers, Jackson and Nichols came to the United States for an opportunity to be apart of the famous gym. Unfamiliarity of the local area kept the duo from reaching the dojo right away. It wasn’t until after a miraculous call by Hartley that guided the two to the Dojo. David Marquez remembers “I get a phone call from [fellow NWA Member] Ed Chuman. He tells me, he got a call from two Australians. I don’t even know how they got Chuman’s phone number.” I talked to Jackson and told him how to get to the Dojo. About six hours later and a lot of walking "Jag" and Nichols reach the dojo.” It wasn’t long after joining the ranks of the Dojo Elite, Hartley and Nichols propositioned NWA member and former Vice President of Inoki Sports Management North American Operations David Marquez, about business. At that point there was a meeting with EPW’s Manager Rick Sanders that a deal would be made to not only have EPW join the NWA, but also an open boarder for the Western Australians to work for the NWA in SoCal. Which at the time were strictly the Inoki Dojo Shows and later the Alternative Wrestling Show. A lot of the action from 2006 was filmed for internet only release, soon other Australians would join the Inoki Dojo and the NWA Pro Wrestling Family.

The duo of Jackson and Nichols would return to Western Australia at the end of May 2006, however Nichols would return in June and would bring with him Bobby Jo Marshall and Ferguson “Psychofett” Block but would return home shortly after. Then in November in 2006, AZ Vegara, Chris Vice would all join the Dojo with the returning Marshall. The initial relationship would bring a total of 6 Western Australians who would compete regularly for the Inoki Dojo, Alternative Wrestling Show, and the Empire Wrestling Federation.

NWA Pro Wrestling: Fiesta Lucha2007 would start off with another influx of Perth wrestlers. Vegara and Marshall made their debuts for the NWA Wrestling Showcase. Marshall would also venture to Arizona for his first shot outside of the SoCal scene. Cameron Wallis would soon make his SoCal debut along with South Australian and EPW Wrestler Damian Slater both wrestling in AWS. Both Marshall and Wallis would appear on the NWA Feista Lucha DVD from Las Vegas, NV. Damian Slater would appear during the NWA Wrestling Summit Tour. Nichols would return to the states spending time in Arizona and SoCal and would later become the first Western Australian to win a championship belt in the States when he pinned Karl Anderson to win the EWF American Championship. Over the next two years the talent trade would continue. SoCal Native Jarek Matthews joined the EPW crew. And former EPW Heavyweight Champion won the Mach One Wrestling title, becoming the second EPW Wrestler to hold championship gold while in the states. As of now, no SoCal Championships have traveled to Western Australia, however the NWA Australian Championship was defended in SoCal when Jayson Cooper of NWA Pro Australia defeated Damien Slater at a SoCal Pro Wrestling Show.

Three years have past since the faithful day that brought Nichols and Hartley to the States and Australians continue to come to Southern California. The list of Western Australians wrestlers to venture to the states has grown to include Shane Haste, Alex Kingston, Dan Moore, Maricus Pitsonopolous, Kiel Steria, and Barry Schmidt. EPW talent would work for the NWA all over Southern California (SoCal Pro Wrestling, Mach 1 Wrestling, Alternative Wrestling Show, and Empire Wrestling Federation. But they didn’t just stop with NWA affiliated promotions, the Australians would work for New Wave Pro Wrestling, MWF Lucha Libre, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. The Western Australians have benefited from the ample opportunities states side and are able to learn different styles to bring back to their country. SoCal benefits by having a dynamic influx of talent bring something a little different to the scene. So the next time you think of wrestling over here in the States, think of all the Australians who’ve impacted the SoCal Wrestling Scene and made it better. Because SoCal Fans have certainly come to appreciate the import of Australian wrestlers and I no longer think of Outback Jack or Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport...

NWA International: Spanning the Globe

Pro Wrestling has been celebrated across the globe in hundreds of wrestling promotions throughout the years.  The National Wrestling Alliance has firmly kept its international roots since its inception well over 60 years ago.  And although over time, the names and faces have changed, the NWA is very much a global wrestling sanctioning body, with offices all across the United States there are other offices that span the globe that include, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, France, Japan, Korea, and Australia.  Often times the coverage of non-North American Wrestling promotions go by the way side.  But here at Alliance-Wrestling we are working to provide coverage on all things NWA, even to our lesser known international promotions.

The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) had announced their newest project much to the chagrin of The Scottish Wrestling Alliance (SWA).  The SWA has been the most active NWA member in the UK and even developed a training/feeder promotion to produce talent for its SWA, title NXT: The Next Generation.  The owner of SWA and NXT released the following comment to the media regarding the WWE announcement.

Everyone at the Scottish Wrestling Alliance is honoured that WWE have decided to name their latest product after SWA's feeder programme, NXT. We would like to assure our fans that the original NXT is still leading the way for trainees in Scotland and the shows on 6th February, Spittal Community Centre, Rutherglen, 19th February, Bargarran Community Centre, Erskine, March 6th, Viewpark Community Centre, Uddingston and March 19th, Links Community Centre, Cumbernauld are all still due to go ahead as advertised."   After long and careful planning, SWA:NXT made it’s debut in January 2007 as a promotion designed to showcase up and coming talent within Scotland in conjunction with SWA’s Area 52 wrestling school. In 2009
NXT Wrestling split from the Scottish Wrestling Alliance to stand on it’s own two feet, taking it’s own creative direction in September

The situation was resolved when PJ Murphy, owner of the SWA stated on the SWA Website that the "WWE was proactive in working with us to come to mutually agreeable terms on the release of the NXT trademark once it learned of the potential conflict. The timing was right for us as we were planning on renaming the NXT brand to SWA:Source to be closer aligned with the SWA parent brand"  Scottish Wrestling Alliance presents: Live Pro Wrestling in Erskine, Renfrewshire on Feb.19th 2010.  The NWA Scottish Heavyweight Champion is "The Butcher" Scott Renwick, The Laird of the Ring Champion is Damien O'Conor, and the SWA Tag Team Champions are the STI.

NWA France has completed a newly designed Website for their fans. They have already announced two live events for the month of March, with the first event being March 7th, featuring NWA European Women's Champion Bulla Punk. International Catch Wrestling Alliance has the distinction of being the home promotion for both the NWA France championship: Greg Fury, the NWA European Championship: Fritz Hellmeister, and the NWA European Tag Team Champions: East Connection. The ICWA also recognizes its own champions in former WWE wrestler Joe. E. Legend as the Heavyweight Champion and Booster Rocket as the Extreme Champion.

The country of Australia might be heading towards a cooling off season, but the wrestling in Australia is anything but. There are two promotions representing the National Wrestling Alliance in the land down under. NWA Pro Wrestling Australia Perth, Western Australia. NWA Pro Australia has recently announced that they will be creating a new tag team division, the NWA Pro Tag League begins to crown the first Australian National Tag Team Champions at Zero Tolerance. Teams confirmed for the tournament so far: The Graham Brothers' Greg and Joey, The Los Aztecas, Hartley Jackson & "Pitbull" Craig Cole and the Australian National Championship will be defended. Zero Tolerance will be taking place March 20th. EPW has started its second season on Loco TV with its Monday Night Wrestling program, becoming Friday Night Wrestling on Loco TV. The first episode features a hardcore match up between Kracker Jack and former NWA Pro Wrestling M1W Heavyweight Champion: Bobby Marshall. This match took place at EPW's Evolution 2009 and was brutal. This was prior to Bobby Marshall being exiled from Australia after being suspended by EPW Officials. Marshall was recently exiled from the US after losing his M1W Heavyweight Championship, one has to believe that Marshall is set to take his revenge on Richter and the entire Darkest Hour. EPW's next big event is entitled GOLD RUSH 3 which is set to take place on April 17th. at the Cyril Jackson Rec Centre, Fisher St, Bassendean.

The NWA continues to span the globe and at Alliance-Wrestling.com, we plan to follow it.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- February 14, 2010 -- NWA National Champion Phill Shatter successfully defends his belt, defeating "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce on Valentine's Day here.

The win gives the "Universal Soldier" number one contender status and a March 14 encounter in Charlotte with current NWA World Champion Blue Demon Jr.

But Pearce, a 2-time former NWA champ, maintains those in the NWA have it in for him. He now claims he never lost the world title to Blue Demon Jr. in 2008, and says he has never received his rematch. He warns that he'll keep coming back to Charlotte "month after month after month" to set things straight with both Phill Shatter and Blue Demon Jr.

SoCal Crazy captures AWS Heavyweight Championship at SoCal Pro Wrestling

In the world of pro wrestling much like other facets of pro sports, the cream always seems to rise to the crop.  And for Southern California standout, SoCal Crazy, it is no different.  SoCal Crazy who was an integeral part of SoCal Pro Wrestling since inception managed to become a two time SCP Heavyweight Champion while fighting off such opponents as Jason Redondo, Tommy Wilson, and more.  And while many people were surprised at SoCal Crazy's shot at Adam Pearce for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, but Crazy's rise to the top wasn't an over night sensation.

Aside from claiming the SoCal Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship twice, and being one half of the the Empire Wrestling Federation Tag Team Champions, SoCal Crazy claimed a third title Saturday the 13th by defeating Johnny Paradise, who had been a the long standing Heavyweight Champion of the Alternative Wrestling Show.  The acquisition of the AWS Heavyweight Championship cemented SoCal Crazy's status in all NWA Pro Wrestling areas.  Nobody can be too sure what's nexts for the Dual Heavyweight Champion, but one can imagine that SoCal Crazy could be building towards a match up with NWA Heritage Heavyweight Champion, "Boarder Patrol" Oliver John.  www.alliance-wrestling.com celebrates SoCal Crazy's AWS Heavyweight Championship victory and look forward to seeing what's next from the champ.

NWA Pro/MIW presents: Friday Fight Night

MAIN EVENT
RockNES Monsters vs. Anchors Away-with newly crowned M1W Champion Willie Mack representing Mach-1 in San Francisco, the tandem of Johnny Goodtime and Johnny Yuma take center stage, hoping to spoil the M1W debuts of SoCal mainstays Anchors Away. Will the sea men be able to match up to the high intensity of the Mach-1 crowd favorites?

Bobby Jo Marshall vs. Andrew Hellman-Marshall has gone on record as saying that there is no competition for him here at Mach-1; a boast that Willie Mack proved otherwise when he took Marshall’s title last week. The Awesome Australian has gone on record as saying that Mack’s win was a fluke, and has vowed that if he loses to the red hot Andrew Hellman, he’ll leave Mach-1 and go back to his homeland. Does Hellman have the fuel, the fire, and the desire to fall this monster from down under? For Hellman’s championship aspirations, he’d better hope so.

James Morgan vs. Todd Chandler-Morgan’s frustration has only grown since losing the M1W Championship—a title he defended against the top talents in SoCal for over a year. Those frustrations grew more when he was pinned by the new M1W Champion Willie Mack last Friday night then attacked him during the 4 way elimination match. Todd Chandler coming in as the underdog, is looking for his second victory, one that would be sure to be an upset, against a highly motivated, perhaps even desperate former champion.

“Pretty” Peter Avalon (w/Mr. Biggz) vs. Mikey Callahan-In a short time, Callahan has begun to be a fan favorite in M1W. Certainly, he has the size and strength advantage over the cunning, crafty Avalon, but he’ll have to overcome two major factors in Avalon’s arsenal—his propensity to win at any cost, and the 300+ pound equalizer Mr. Biggz in his corner.

Sonny Samson vs. David Flex-Since arriving in M1W, Flex has been anything but bashful in showing off his impressive physique. Now he’ll have to rely on tools other than his strength in meeting up with one of the few men in Mach-1 who can out muscle him.

PLUS: In singles action: Kyle Webb v. Dan Moore

NWA On Fire's Webster's Weekly: Week of February 7th, 2010

Fresh off a tremendous NWA On Fire weekend in the great state of Maine and we're ready to blast into Connecticut with two hot shows. Saturday the 13th, it's the fun and adventure of Nomad's Adventure Quest. 7 huge matches and you'll have the best seat in the house when you head to South Windsor. Then, a Sunday afternoon matinee in Southington, Connecticut as we slam into the Cadillac Ranch. Southington brings back so many great memories of the late Boston Bad Boy Tony Rumble. Tony was my travel partner and we took many memorable road trips to Southington during the heyday of the ICW. No one could tell a good wrestling story like the BBB.

Sad to hear about the passing of a true wrestling icon. Jack Briscoe passed away earlier this week. Jack, an outstanding NWA Champion, tag team champion, and hall of famer deserved every accolade that was presented to him. A true class act.

One can just imagine how angry Apollo must be now that he has lost the North American championship.

If you live in, near, or around Massachusetts and you're looking for a unique alternative to the usual social fare that's out there, why not check out the Bell Time Club? It's brand new, and the concept is a simple, yet exciting one. Fans, members of the wrestling fraternity, and those just interested in wrestling are all gathering under one roof to talk wrestling, train, enjoy live wrestling events, and be part of the greatest entertainment vehicle ever, professional wrestling. Visit belltimeclub.com for more information on this great new club starting up in Everett, Massachusetts.

For those of you wondering about the comings and goings of Mr. Backlund, the former 2-time World Heavyweight Champion was back in the NWA On Fire offices this week. This time around, we were all bombarded with questions about the amount of energy we, as Backlund put it, "are wasting with our computers, lap tops, and electronic devices destroying the ozone layer". Of course, Tommy Savoldi had all the wrong answers and was forced to recite the alphabet backwards. Hey, it beat suffering through the pain of Backlund's still-devastating Chicken Wing Submission.

Is there any truth to the rumor that the Women's Division will finally be crowing it's first ever NWA On Fire Ladies Champion?

Have a great week.

Interview with “Lightning” an interview with "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush

Our friends over at Westside Pro Wrestling did a great interview with NWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion, "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush recently. With their permission we are re-posting this interview. To keep up with the all the news, results and info on the Western Australian wrestling scene, subscribe to westsideprowrestling@hotmail.com.

[Mana, The Polynesian Warrior], brings Westside Pro Wrestling newsletter a monthly column in which he gives his thoughts on the current scene or talks with superstar friends from his past in the United States.  For this article I thought I would get in touch with one of the most amazing wrestlers I have ever had the opportunity to be in the ring with. Some of the stuff he pulls out can be called nothing but amazing. If you don’t believe me look him up on you tube for sure and you’ll see what I mean. His name is “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush and he is the founder of CHIKARA pro wrestling. I first studied Mike Quackenbush matches against Reckless Youth who back then stupefied me just as to how the hell they pulled a lot of there moves off so damn quick and so crisp. These days Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero do this with Mike and they are giants.   Quack has been one of the premier wrestlers on the circuit for over ten years now as well as publishing his own books. He is one of the forefathers to a style that can only be described as Lucha / Japanese and X Division all combined into one.  I am proud to put together this interview with one of my good friends and one of the best cruisers in the American Independent scene as well as the world - “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush.

Mana:  How did the name "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush come to be?

Quack:  It was really something pushed on me in the mid-90's, to try and become more marketable. At the time, I was wrestling as M. Quackenbush. The promoter I was working for at the time felt it needed something more, so I added "Lightning" in tribute to Jushin "Thunder" Liger, who inspired me.

Mana:  You and the wrestlers/students of CHIKARA received training from Jorge "Skayde" Rivera, how do you think his influence has improved your abilities?

Quack:  He opened up a whole new world of wrestling for me.  He's in his mid-40's now, and he is more active and more creative than guys half his age.

Mana:  You have wrestled in many top U.S indy promotions, as well as overseas in Europe and Japan, which experiences have been the most memorable in your career thus far?

Quack:  For different reasons, wrestling in Mexico, Germany, and Japan are very memorable experiences. My first match in Mexico, I was given a death threat from a fan. Which is kind of awesome, if you think about it. In Europe, the fans have a great respect for my style, and so I always feel well-appreciated when I perform for them.  In Japan, because I had longed to go there, and worked for years with that as my goal, I found it  especially satisfying just to climb in the ring, and hear the announcer call my name in Japanese.

Mana:  What was it like to square off with someone you had idolized, British pro wrestling legend, Johnny Saint?

Quack:  Humbling, of course. He's such a gentleman, in the ring and out. At times, it was almost like I was not in the match, but  watching it on TV. Prior to the day we wrestled, the only way I had even seen him was on TV.

Mana:  Who is on the list of people you'd like to lock up with one day?

Quack:  Christopher Daniels is always on that list. I would love to have a singles match with him. I think it would be a lot of fun to wrestle  Ultimo Guerrero, or Averno from CMLL as well.

Mana:  You've held the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship for over two years, who in the NWA would you like to defend it against?

Quack:  Anyone. Bring 'em on. I'd love to be out there defending that title every month, if they could line up the challengers for me.

Mana:  In the past couple of years, you have taken CHIKARA to many different states in America, as well as Germany and Japan, where else do you see CHIKARA in the near future?

Quack:  It would be great to play Mexico, since that is where our stylistic roots are, but really, those kinds of things represent great risk.

Mana:  Is there a possibility of Mike Quackenbush coming to Western Australia in the foreseeable future?

Quack:  There is talk of a trip to Perth, I am pleased to report. I would love to play Australia before I hang up the boots. The birthplace of tag team wrestling! It would be a lot of fun.  Any last words?  Please check us out online, we have a free weekly podcast you can watch on iTunes under the name "CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go".

Mana:  Thanks for your time – hope you check out some of Mike’s matches they are amazing and he is sure to be hitting our shores in 2010.

NWA Southwest 12th Anniversary

NWA On Fire's Webster's Weekly

The tag team scene here in NWA On Fire certainly has changed since the implosion of The Latin Hit Squad. I call it an implosion because I believe the team was destroyed from within. They got too big. Perhaps too soon. I believe that mounting pressure to hold on to those belts in the face of more and more talented challengers proved to be too much for the Latin Hit Squad. Which brings me to Da Hoodz. They have risen faster than the rising waters of a flash flood. Their time may be now as they get set to take on the Samoan Warriors for the coveted tag team straps. This one is going to one of those "high flying/low riding" kind of matches, with The Heat and The Hi-Lite looking for an all-out aerial attack while Makua and Fala wage their all-out ground assault on their young challengers. This will be a match for the ages that won't soon be forgotten.

Another match-up I'm paying close attention to is newcomer Big Bad John versus the 7 foot 1 Egyptian God-king, The Giant Pharaoh. The towering Big Bad John recently battled the seemingly unbeatable Crazy Chainsaw to a double-count out, proving he has the "stuff" here in NWA On Fire. How will he fare against the Pharaoh? His royal highness is vicious, mean, and cruel. And those are some of his more positive traits. What will he do to prove his dominance over Big Bad John, and for that matter over the entire NWA On Fire roster?

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. The Boston Bad Boy, Jason Rumble was recently spotted talking with Josef Von Schmidt. As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the German national is making a lot of enemies very quickly in his short time here thus far. So what was BBB doing with him, in what seemed to be a very cordial conversation? Rumble told me, "I'm the Boston Bad Boy. It's about time I start living up to the legacy".

Justin Corino is one of the most popular stars on the roster. It should come as no surprise that his rising popularity is due largely in part to how he relates to the fans. They are hard-working, plain-spoken and demand a lot of themselves in their everyday lives. Much like Corino, a tireless workhorse in this industry who fits the mold of wrestling fans everywhere.

What is this "T M T" chant and signage I've been seeing around our NWA On Fire live events? What does T M T stand for? Is it the latest, greatest newcomer? Or, are the fans trying to send us a message? Talk to us, people!

We've been contacted by an Egyptian wrestling promotion that is very keen on interviewing several of our greats for their top-rated television program. Of course, we would be sadly mistaken (and most likely severely beaten) if we did not include the Giant Pharaoh in that television interview in his home country.

Have a great week.

NWA Pro/M1W Presents Friday Fight Night, February 5th!

NWA Pro/M1W presents Friday Fight Night on Friday, February 5th at 8pm in Anaheim, CA!

M1W Championship Match - 3 Way Elimination Match
Bobby Marshall (Champion) vs. “Red Tornado” James Morgan (Challenger) vs. Joey Ryan (Challenger)
- January 22nd: Joey Ryan made his M1W return and battled for the Championship against Bobby Marshall. Marshall retained the title after destroying Ryan’s knee and locked him in an STF and Ryan’s manager C. Edward Vanderpyle threw in the towel when Ryan refused to submit.

January 29th: James Morgan got his long awaited rematch to recapture the M1W Championship against Bobby Marshall. Marshall retained when Morgan was caught with an illegal object that Marshall brought into the ring but Morgan was able to wrestle away.

Both Ryan and Morgan contend that their losses were not legitimate and both want a rematch. With no love lost between Ryan and Morgan either, the M1W office and the NWA brass have come together and decided that the title will be decided on February 5th in a 3 Way Elimination Match.

Since arriving in America in November, Bobby Marshall has been unstoppable in the M1W ring, capturing the M1W Championship on December 18th and continuing to dominate week after week. Marshall has promised to take the M1W Championship back to Australia with him when he returns later this month. With chances to keep the M1W Championship in America running out, one would have to think that this is the best shot M1W, James Morgan and Joey Ryan have to make that happen.

M1W Tag Team Championship Match
The Natural Selection (Brian Cage & Shawn Rickers) (Champions) vs. Andrew Hellman & Sexy Sonny Sampson (Challengers)
- January 29th: Brian Cage & Shawn Rickers won in the finals of the 16 team tournament to become the first ever M1W Tag Team Champions. Although outlasting all 16 teams, Cage & Rickers made a statement saying “We beat 4 teams in the tournament but we could have beaten all 16, so any of the other teams that want to step up, we will take you down as well.” The first team to step up was the unlikely duo of Andrew Hellman & Sexy Sonny Sampson who found success as partners as they reached the quarterfinals in the tournament.

Scorpio Sky vs. Willie Mack
- A match with M1W Championship implications. You would have to think that the winner in this match would be in line for a future M1W title match. Even if they have to travel to Australia to get it!

The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin) vs. The RockNES Monsters (Johnny Goodtime & Johnny Yuma)
- Both teams found success in the M1W Tag Team Championship Tournament and now both look to get that momentum back into the tag team title picture.

Kyle Webb vs. Ryan Taylor
- Kyle Webb is seemingly getting more and more frustrated as each week goes by. His opponent this week will be the cool, calm and collected NWA Pro/EWF Champion Ryan Taylor. If Kyle Webb wants to be successful here, he needs to find a way to keep his emotions in check.

Dan Moore vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon
- Since his arrival from Perth Australia and beginning his training under the guide of M1W trainers Joey Ryan & Johnny Goodtime, as well as special guest trainers like Brian Kendrick & Paul London, Dan Moore has seriously upped his game. He has even come close to beating Kendrick himself in an M1W ring. You know who doesn't care about any of that? Peter Avalon!

NWA Pro/Mach One Wrestling’s weekly “Friday Fight Night” comes to you live from the American Sports Center at 1500 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805. Bell time 8:05PM, doors open at 7:30. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students w/ ID and children 12 and under.

01/30/10 NWA ECCW Results

NWA Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling
January 30, 2010
Russian Community Centre
Vancouver, BC, Canada

RESULTS: Juggernaut Dominates In Vancouver!

After the brutal three-way dance for the NWA Canadian heavyweight title in Surrey, Juggernaut was itching to get another piece of Sid Sylum! Last Saturday night in Vancouver, Juggernaut got everything he wanted and then some - and the fans at the Russian Community Centre also got a reminder of why Juggernaut is one of the sickest and most feared competitors in the history of ECCW! Even The Natural was not immune to Juggernaut's onslaught, as he was busted open immediately with a vicious chairshot! Sylum and Juggernaut battered and bloodied each other throughout the Russian Community Centre, sending even fans scattering for cover! Juggernaut nearly crushed Sylum with a huge legdrop off the stage through a table, but back inside the ring, Sylum pulled the referee into the way of a sickening chairshot by Juggernaut! A distracted Juggernaut was left open for several vicious lariats by Sylum, who could not knock the monster down! Juggernaut dodged another lariat attempt and scooped Sylum up, dropping him on his head with the K-Driller and scoring the three-count to cap off a victorious return to Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling!

Before Kenny Lush and "Brilliant" Billy Suede could prepare to face Egos & Icons for the NWA/ECCW tag team championship, both Lush and Suede were attacked not only by Tony Baroni and Jamie Diaz, the two men defending the gold in Vancouver, but by their stablemate Nick Price as well! Lush's main squeeze, Nicole Matthews, came to ringside to attack Price and even up the sides, as the match broke down into chaos before it could even begin! Suede grabbed the microphone and challenged Egos & Icons to a six-person tag team match - Baroni, Diaz and Price against Suede, Lush and Matthews! NWA Pacific Northwest representative Michael Sweetser made the match official, and the contest was underway! After a fantastic back and forth contest with several spectacular maneuvers, Matthews executed her Roll the Dice maneuver on Price to score the surprising victory for her team! Lush, Suede and Matthews celebrated with the NWA/ECCW tag team championship belts as Egos & Icons screamed at Sweetser in protest. Sweetser then announced that due to Matthews not being on the original contract and the match becoming a six-person tag, the belts would remain with Egos & Icons.. but that on Saturday night, March 6th in Vancouver, Egos & Icons would defend the NWA/ECCW tag team championship against Kenny Lush & "Brilliant" Billy Suede... in TLC V! Tables, ladders and chairs will be the name of the game, and whoever is the best tag team in ECCW will have to prove it by climbing the ladder to claim the gold!

Due to the victory by Rick The Weapon X & El Phantasmo in Surrey over The Divine Prophet & Artemis Spencer, as part of a special Saturday Sermon, Artemis Spencer had no choice but to shave off The Divine Prophet's beard! That's not to say that the Church of the Divine Prophecy didn't try everything they could to get out of it, even offering up the tiny goatee of the Tiny Prophet instead! Michael Sweetser, El Phantasmo and Rick The Weapon X stormed to ringside, demanding that the stipulation be upheld! Snipping off a tiny portion of the Divine Prophet's beard didn't count, and even Artemis Spencer faking his own demise didn't get them out of the stipulation. Finally, after Sweetser threatened indefinite suspension of the entire Church, Artemis Spencer did the deed - removing the Divine Prophet's beard once and for all! Rick and Phantasmo celebrated in various ways with the remnants of the beard, sending the Prophet and Spencer into a rage-filled attack on the two of them! Spencer went straight for Rick's leg, nearly snapping it in two with a vicious double-stomp from the top rope onto a chair wrapped around the leg! Rick the Weapon X had obviously suffered a serious injury, but still gutted it out to face Spencer later in the evening. Spencer targeted the leg almost exclusively, and although Rick fought as long as possible with only one good wheel, another double stomp off the top directly onto the knee and a single-leg crab was enough to get the injured Australian to tap out.

Scotty Mac & Dropkick Murphy thought they'd have a fair shot at beating two men they used to look up to, "Rocket" Randy Tyler & Ladies Choice.. but that was before "The Mayor" Austin Spencer stuck his nose in their business! The Mayor announced that the CAC had ordered that due to infringement upon Randy Tyler - who made a "generous contribution" recently - that Scotty Mac could not use either his springboard dropkick or his superkick, and doing so would risk disqualification! The change definitely changed Scotty's gameplan for the contest, as two of his best weapons were removed from the equation.. but not from Tyler's, as the Sweet Potato Pie by Tyler on Dropkick sealed the victory for the BBC!

The failed attempt to remove El Phantasmo's mask in Surrey didn't stop "Dastardly" Danni Deeds from attempting to complete his mission to unmask the popular Phantasmo, as the two did battle once again in Vancouver! Both the Divine Prophet and Tiny Prophet tried to get involved, sliding a chair to Deeds, but Phantasmo stopped Deeds from using the chair.. then suddenly struck Deeds in the skull with the chair, drawing a disqualification! Deeds won the match, but it appears that Phantasmo won the war, at least on this particular night!

In other action in Vancouver, "The Mayor" Austin Spencer defeated Callos, and AC Zeidel pinned Fast Freddy Funk.

ECCW returns to the Bridgeview Hall in Surrey for our first event in the month of February, on Friday night, February 19th! Already signed is a blockbuster intergender tag team main event, as NWA Canadian heavyweight champion Scotty Mac teams with Tenille Tayla to face the Pop Culture tandem of Bishop and SuperGirls champion Veronika Vice! In addition, Gurv Sihra returns from his recent injury to defend the NWA Canadian junior heavyweight championship against the man he took the title from, Azeem The Dream - and Azeem will try to regain the title by himself, without The Natural in his corner! Tickets are on sale here at ECCW.com right now, so be sure to get your tickets for the next great live event from the top professional wrestling organization in all of Canada, Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling!
