NWA - IZW July 28 2009 Ringside Report
The Sets in Tempe, Arizona
Exclusive to www.impactzonewrestling.com
Greg DeMarco opened up the show, and immediately called out referee Ryan Castelucci. DeMarco had Castelucci’s paycheck from July 14 in his hands, claiming that Ryan had to “do the right thing” tonight if he planned to earn his living. DeMarco forced agreement from Castelucci before being interrupted by IZW Board of Directors Representative Nick “Flood” DeMichael. DeMichael announced several matches for the show, including an Impulse Title defense, a #1 Contender Tag Team match, and an IZW Championship match. He was then interrupted by “Miracle” Mike James, who requested a rematch with Derick Neikirk, whether it be for the Arizona Heavyweight Championship or not. DeMarco initially refused, but then attempted to take James by surprise by granting him the match, and starting it immediately.
Match 1: Arizona Heavyweight Champion Derick Neikirk fought to a 15-minute draw with “Miracle” Mike James in a non-title match.
Match 2: The BFF Express (Johnny Manson & Tyson Tyler) beat Lucha Star & “El Cholo” Mike G to become the #1 Contenders to the NWA-IZW Tag Team Championship. The Express won with the Friendly Fire after a miscommunication by Lucha & Mike. Following the match, Mike G showed his frustration when he turned on Lucha, disappointing his partner for nearly two years and shocking the IZW fans in the process.
Match 3: “The King of Phoenix” Payed Daily pinned the returning Dread Pirate Bernie following a DDT on the ring apron. Bernie and Skull & Bones tag team partner Mike James then celebrated Bernie’s return with the fans.
Match 4: Dom “The Bomb” Vitalli pinned “The Irish Hand Grenade” Marty Murphy to win the NWA-IZW Impulse Championship. Marty was putting Dom in position for the TK602 when former 602 Wrecking Crew tag team partner Jacob Herzberg’s music hit, allowing Dom to roll Marty up for the championship win.
Match 5: “The Limited Edition” Tommy Drake defeated “Freak-O-Suave” Frenchy Riviera by disqualification. Riviera used a chain slipped to him by Greg DeMarco to knock Drake out, but referee Ryan Castelucci saw the chain and called for the
disqualification. Riviera protested, but DeMarco immediately hit the ring and began to berate Ryan for both his job as a referee and his dream to become an IZW superstar as Ryan Castle, much to the ire of the crowd. The crowd begged for Ryan to strike DeMarco, but DeMarco knew that Castelucci wouldn’t risk his livelihood. Ryan agreed, informing DeMarco that Ryan Castelucci wouldn’t do such a thing, but Ryan Castle would. Castelucci proceeded to knock DeMarco out with one punch, ripping up the paycheck DeMarco held ransom and shedding his referee shirt.
Match 6: In the Main Event, Impact Zone Wrestling champion “The East Coast Killer” Dean Radford pinned “The Institution of Professional Wrestling” GQ Gallo. Radford had Gallo pinned when Derick Neikirk pulled referee Sal Erakat out of the ring and threw him into the guardrail. Gallo and Neikirk proceeded to attack Radford when “The Feature Presentation” Jay Garland made a surprise return to IZW, coming to his nemesis’s aid. Once Radford & Garland cleared the ring of Neikirk, Radford connected with the Radicator and scored the pinfall on the former two-time IZW Champion.
Stay tuned to www.impactzonewrestling.com for more fallout from July 28 at The Sets, including several new episodes of IZW Impulse! Both Marty Murphy and Derick Neikirk issued challenges that were recorded for Impulse, and we hope to have news on both challenges right here at www.impactzonewrestling.com later this week. IZW returns to The Sets in Tempe on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 7:30 PM.

A New Challenge to the North American Crown
"Some very exciting things are happening on a daily basis. I have received word that Lance Cade is making his way to NWA On Fire. I understand that Mr. Cade is setting his sights on becoming the NWA North American Champion and will travel anywhere for a shot at Apollo."
Apollo is no slouch, although his only title defense comes from the debut NWA NJ show on June 27th. He challenged Mike DiBiase for the North American Heavyweight Championship back in April at the NWA Showcase Television Tapings. The NWA On-Fire Heavyweight Champion defeated DiBiase for the title in Tyler Texas at the Striking Gold Event. Lance Cade however missed the events in Tyler Texas because his prior bookings in Japan with Hustle. Cade and his partner Murdock was pursuing the World Tag Team Champions Skull Krushers. But with Murdock working a regular schedule in Total Non-Stop Action, it appears that Cade will be going solo and he will be pursuing Apollo. One thing is for sure, these two giants will go all out for the North American Crown.ECCW Pro Wrestling's August 1st

NWA Australia vs. Explosive Pro Wrestling - Adelaide
It started back at EPW Adelaide's Revolution. At the start of the event, Mark Aiston announced the company would be expanding nationally with the help of the NWA. Benny English was opposed to this idea as he wants to keep EPW in his grasp and stay in complete control. At the end of the Revolution, Benny English went on to fire Mark Aiston and the majority of the roster stating that it's EPW who owns the ring and its EPW who has the contracts with the venues, not the National Wrestling Alliance. Mark Aiston responded to English stating that if he wants a war, then he has got one. With Mark Aiston and half the roster apparently fired from EPW, what will happen at the next event? And at Ground Zero, the NWA Australia & Explosive Pro Wrestling - Adelaide battled for control of the company. The fans seemingly in favor of the NWA Australia and souring on the EPW-A group. The night's battle culminated when the NWA Australian Heavyweight Champion, Jayson Cooper, defeated EPW Adelaide's Slex. The fall out of Ground Zero is unsure, however the NWA successfully defeated EPW. And the promotion has been renamed NWA Pro Wrestling (Australia) and a National Tour has been announced.
Explosive Professional Wrestling was founded in Perth, Western Australia in 2001. Since that time, EPW has held some of the finest wrestling shows in Australia while building a reputation as the best produced wrestling product in the country. In 2004, EPW entered the National Wrestling Alliance.
EPW had expanded into South Australia with the spin off promotion EPW-Adelaide. With the recent events in South Australia, it appears that NWA Pro will now be representing the NWA in Southern Australia.

CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Wrestling - Blue Demon: 'I don't think I'm a superhero'
Jul 20, 2009
NWA Prints for Sale, Shane Michael Kidder

Jay Cal: Shane how did you get into the business of photographing wrestling?
Shane: It’s an interesting story, I think of my journey into the business of wrestling photography as of two acts. One where it was a hobby and second when it became a second career.
While working at the newspaper the story came out about a wrestler being attacked in his home in our area. While following the story, The promoter who was a news source in the story told my boss the wrestler was going to make an appearance at a wrestling show to discuss what happened. I asked if I could shoot it, and he said go ahead. I got the details from the promoter headed out to the show later that week, When I got there it turned out that he gave me the wrong date for the show. Later he called to let us know he was doing a benefit show for the wrestler. The paper decide to cover it, my boss asked me if I wanted to go with another photographer to cover the event; I jumped all over it. The night of that event I double check the date and the address, made sure we got to downtown LA in plenty of time. When we pulled up to the venue I knew something was wrong. Out on the street / parking lot all of the wrestlers and fans where milling around, It turns out that something happened with the building not being secured for the show, I have heard tons of rumors about what happened but I don’t want to speculate on it, the only thing I knew for certain is that there was noting going to be a show at this location. The promoter was sitting in his car, when we were told that the show was being moved to Anaheim. So the photographer and I decided to head out to the show, But we got there we were told that the show was canceled by the some of the wrestlers who also made the drive out.
I thought that was going to be the end, that I would never get a chance to shoot wrestling. But a few months later that changed.
A reporter found a flyer for a show that was going to be in Santa Clarita that he wanted to cover for the paper. My boss at the paper asked if I wanted to cover it for the paper with another photographer, I said sure. Needless to say that’s where I learned one of the most important thing about photographing wrestling; Watch the wrestlers at all times. This comes after almost being knocked completely out by a wrestler diving out of the ring at the show.
After this show I put a message out on a message board about shooting started contacting promoters and start to photograph as many groups as I could with no real focus, just a hobby to do on the weekends and that was it.
One person that I do have to thank when I first started was Paul T. He helped me get into PWG to shoot their shows which are a blast and still enjoy photographing today.
One of the first promoters I met told me that there is no money in wrestling, at the same time asking me to drive up 6 hours to his show where he may or may not give me gas money. And to be honest that just soured me on the whole thing and almost walked away from it, as a hobby this was done.
Enter David Marquez; It was towards the end where I was just getting feeling rundown about wrestling with a few exception I decided that I want to give shooting UPW a shot before I called it quits. I posted it on the message board again, and Dave responded. We met at a PWG Show and talked wrestling for a few hours before the show and before I knew it I was working for him at NJPW. He’s flown me all over the country to photograph NWA events . I can honestly say it wasn’t for him I would have been out of this business a long time ago. He’s been a great mentor and friend and helped me make this a second career.
Jay Cal: You could be one of the most recognizable faces in the Southern California wrestling scene, who has never performed in the ring. How many wrestling promotions have you worked for?
Shane: I think it’s been about 19 or 20 I’ve photographed at this time if you
Jay Cal: What are some of your most favorite pieces of work? Which picture or graphic has been your favorite?
Shane: This is a great question… On the wrestling graphics side I’m really proud of the Joey Ryan and Blue Demon jr. NWA photo collage posters I just finished. They are a lot of work to do but they look great, There’s a poster that I’m updating of Blue Demon Jr. vs Adam Pearce that I’ll be putting up soon that I really like. There’s a few photos from an FHM Magazine Shoot I did a few years ago of PWG that I really like, mostly posed shots. I used a few in the Joey Ryan Poster. There’s a several from a show in Corpus Christi that I think is some of my best work ever. The lighting was perfect, the action was great, they just turned out awesome. There’s a series of backstage headshots that I did for the NWA that are also great. There is also a whole series of candids that I did on the Texas tours a few years ago that are some of my all time favorite photos that I hope to collect into a book some day. It involves get guys to do the young buck pose in various locations. I was able to get the Laredo Hockey team mascot to even do it. It was great.Jay Cal: What was your favorite event you got to photograph.
Shane: This is kind of hard for me to answer, I tend to zone when I’m shooting so I really don’t remember the actual event. It dives my friends insane. I enjoyed the 57th NWA Anniversary weekend, even though it caused me to lose my hearing in my right ear for a few months. I still blame waffle house…hahahahaha. I also have so many great stories and made so many friends that weekend, it made me realize that I was doing the right thing staying active in wrestling. It was also the first event that someone actually flew me out to which was awesome. The Texas tours have always been a blast for me also. Though one of my favorite wrestling related thing to photograph is when ever the NWA goes to Disneyland . It’s just awesome to shoot and watch people who have never been there, they have the best reactions to the park.

NWA Hall of Fame 2009 Updates
NWA Executive Director, Robert K. Trobich stated:
“Although we are rounding out the rest of the 2009 Class of the NWA Hall of Fame, I am pleased to announce that the late Dennis Coralluzzo is second person we are going to honor this year. Dennis was one-of-a-kind. To describe him as colorful just doesn't do him justice. But he was also an excellent promoter, who put together great matches and had an eye for young talent. Most importantly, however, Dennis was an almost indispensable ally in keeping the NWA alive in the 90s. One of my fondest memories was journeying to Atlanta with Dennis to convince WCW that the failure to admit Dennis to the NWA (which they did not want) would result in decades of legal action and fees. Dennis and I were, of course, bluffing, but it worked. Once in, Dennis was instrumental in bringing in new members and raising the NWA profile. From appearing on WWF television, to accompanying Dan "The Beast" Severn to the ring in an early UFC bout, proudly holding the NWA Worlds Championship aloft, Dennis was NWA to the end and has a rightful place in the NWA Hall of Fame.”
The NWA Hall of Fame induction of Dennis will take place at the Dennis Coralluzzo Invitational on Sept. 26th at the Wayne (NJ) PAL promoted by Rick Otazu. Tickets for the event are on sale now by emailing a ticket request to mrjcw@optonline.net. For more information on the card please visit www.nwanj.com or www.nwawrestling.com.
